SCBWI-Los Angeles hosts five major events each year:
Writer’s Day – Spring – a one-day conference featuring speakers, workshops and a writing contest
Critiquenic – Summer – an informal critiquing session for writers and illustrators held after a picnic lunch
Working Illustrator’s Retreat – Summer – three-day, two-night retreat featuring an editor, illustrators and workshops on layout, design, portfolio presentation and book dummies
Illustrator’s Day – Fall – a one-day conference featuring speakers, workshops, and portfolio reviews/display
Working Writer’s Retreat – Winter – a three-day, two-night retreat featuring an editor, speakers and intensive critiquing

Each year the SCBWI organizes two international conferences:
Annual Conference on Writing and Illustrating for Children August — Century City Plaza Hotel — Los Angeles, CA
Annual Mid-Year Conference on Writing and Illustrating for Children
February — Roosevelt Hotel — New York City, NY
The SCBWI brings together top professionals in the children’s book industry to share their knowledge and expertise with attendees. These conferences are also excellent networking opportunities for those already established in the children’s industry and for those just starting to enter the fantastic (yet demanding) world of children’s book writing and illustrating.
